Ceremonial Cacao – The gentlest tradition of all
Long before chocolate became a candy, cacao was sacred. The Mayans and Aztecs drank their 'food of the gods' pure and ceremonially – a tradition that has been reviving worldwide in recent years in cacao ceremonies and mindful moments. At Dr. Smartshop, you will find 100% pure ceremonial cacao of traditional origin.
What is ceremonial cacao?
Ceremonial cacao is pure, minimally processed cocoa paste made from whole cocoa beans – including the cocoa butter, without added sugars or milk powder. The difference from regular chocolate is enormous: this is cacao as it has been prepared in Central America for thousands of years.
You prepare a hot drink with it: the paste melts in hot water, traditionally supplemented with spices such as cinnamon or cayenne. Cacao naturally contains theobromine, a mild stimulant related to caffeine but softer in character.
Types of ceremonial cacao
- Pure cocoa paste – 100% cocoa in block or paste form, ready to melt.
- Criollo varieties – Made from the most prized cocoa bean variety.
- Cocoa with spices – Traditional blends with cinnamon, cayenne, or vanilla.
